The mountain on which the remains of the Quirra castle can be visited today seems to have always been popular with the Sardinians and proto-Sardinians. There are numerous traces of human settlements in the Neolithic and Paleolithic era; the use of the area has been varied but constant over time.
The Quirra castle was built many centuries later. There is no certain construction date; we only know that before 1296 - 7 it was already standing and bustling with life. During those years it was taken away from the judges of Cagliari, with great probability the architects of its construction.
After a long siege, the Aragonese who recently landed in the southern area of the island, they managed to conquer it: it was 1324. After this date the Pisans were forced to abandon Eastern Sardinia, leaving it in the hands of the new dominators.
Several political events revolved around the Quirra castle: this says a lot about its importance, not only strategic and military, but also economical. It is no coincidence that it was besieged several times. Dominating from the castle located at a height of 296 meters meant dominating the alluvial valleys, fertile and rich, the mines, but also the coast.
